PURPOSE
The US K1 Fiancee Visa is utilized by US citizens to bring a foreign fiancee or girlfriend to the United States for marriage. The foreign fiancee will be issued a 90 day visa, and while it must be the intent of the parties’ to marry and adjust the foreign fiancee’s status to permanent resident within this 90 day period, should the parties decide not to marry the foreign fiancee will simply depart the United States.

INCOME REQUIREMENT
The US citizen petitioner of a US K1 fiancee visa must meet a minimum income requirement. Both taxable and non-taxable income can be used to qualify. The minimum income required is based on family size. For example, in 2018 to support a family of 2 (you and your fiancee) the US citizen petitioner must have an income not less than $20,575.00

MEDICAL EXAMINATION
The foreign fiancee must complete a medical examination. The primary intent of the examination is to determine if the foreign fiancee has any contagious medical condition that could affect the safety and wellbeing of America citizens. The secondary intent is to protect the foreign fiancee from contagions through vaccination. The examination is performed at one of two Embassy approved hospitals in Bangkok.

EMBASSY INTERVIEW
The foreign fiancee will be interviewed by a US consular officer at the US Embassy. The consular officer will determine if the parties’ meet the requirements of the fiancee visa, and analyze the bona fides (good faith & honest intent) of the foreign fiancee. If all requirements are met, and the consular officer is satisfied as to the bona fides of the foreign fiancee the visa will be approved and issued.
